Put the Power of love to work

Forgiveness Makes Business Better

In the Amare Way, forgiveness is fundamentally letting go of suffering in exchange for love. It means you shed the resentment, anger, and the desire for vengeance that you carry from past pains and betrayals. It does not mean forgetting or excusing what was done.

Why forgive? Because holding on to resentment and negativity hurts you and can even attract more of the same. In fact, not forgiving concedes your power to the ones that caused harm. Forgiveness is really about you, not them.

In business, leaders are sometimes loathe to forgive – whether the “sin” was committed  by employees that made big mistakes, competitors for beating them, or even their own errors in judgement. Holding grudges is not a show of strength. The best leaders know that forgiveness – however difficult – makes space for the uplifting and connecting energy of love.

  • Do you know what it is to forgive and to be forgiven?
  • Do you let yourself be defined by your stories about what people did to you?
  • Who do you need to forgive?

Choose Your Favorite Reminder for Why to Forgive!

  1. Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.
  1. Holding a grudge is like being stung to death by one bee.
  1. Holding a grudge is like letting someone live rent-free in your head.

Notes: Thanks to my daughter Hana Engelberg for inspiring this section above. There are many sources and variations of these sayings. And here’s a beautiful article I recommend called “What is Forgiveness” by Jack Kornfield.
