A burning question is whether AI will control humanity. A more useful one right now is whether it will reveal humanity.
AI is already one of the most powerful mirrors humanity has ever built. Not because it shows us who we are, but because it reveals what we value. Everything it creates is shaped by the objectives we ask it to pursue.
When those objectives are wise, compassionate, and expansive, AI supports and scales those qualities. When they are rooted in fear, greed, ego, or short-term thinking, that’s what grows.
Bottom line: AI reflects and amplifies human intentions. It is a mirror with a megaphone. And an amazingly powerful one.
What Will Shape the Future – Good and Bad
The future will not depend on what AI wants—because it wants nothing. It will depend on what the humans guiding it value and intend. That is both its greatest promise and its greatest risk.
History suggests this is not entirely new. The printing press spread both literacy and propaganda. Electricity powered hospitals and warfare. Social media created connection and polarization (and gave us cat videos!).
Powerful tools rarely determine outcomes by themselves. They tend to magnify whatever people bring to them. AI may do that faster and farther than any technology before it.
Imagine Two Leaders with Identical AI Tools
One primarily asks how to beat competitors, dominate markets, and maximize short-term results.
The other asks how to create value, improve lives, and build something worthy of lasting trust.
AI goes to work for both. Same technology, different intentions. Two very different futures.
Window: Anthropic Calling a Pause
Anthropic, the company building one of the world’s most advanced AI systems, has warned that AI may be advancing faster than society’s ability to understand and govern it. In line with their responsible scaling policy, they’re urging a slowdown in development.
It may be one of the least exciting messages in technology. And one of the most important. Why? Because it unselfishly reminds us that capability and wisdom do not always arrive at the same time. It invites us to get super clear on which human intentions it will help scale.
Instant Thought Experiment
Suppose AI could help you achieve one major objective quickly and flawlessly.
Would you use it to maximize profit? Influence? Efficiency? Growth? Learning? Flourishing?
Notice which answer came first. Then ask yourself why.

Mirror – Questions to Ask Yourself
༄ What intentions are driving my most important goals right now?
༄ If AI amplified my current intentions tenfold, would I like the result?
Door Into Action – 3 Amare Steps for the AI Age
1. Check in before charging ahead. Before pursuing an important objective, pause. Examine the assumptions, fears, ambitions, and values driving it.
2. Take a stand for what matters. Be clear about the outcomes and principles you are unwilling to sacrifice, even when pressure mounts and shortcuts become tempting.
3. Stay connected while pursuing results. Don’t choose between performance and people. Pursue results in ways that strengthen trust, belonging, and human flourishing.
Amare Team Talk
Ask your team: “If AI helped us achieve our goals perfectly, what might improve?”
Then ask: “What might unintentionally get lost?”
Let both ambitions and fears surface, and commit to addressing them within specific timeframes.
Your Inspirational Challenge
Every powerful technology eventually becomes a test of human judgment. AI is no exception.
There is no doubt that AI is becoming one of the most powerful mirrors humanity has ever built – and one of the most powerful amplifiers ever created.
Mirrors reveal. Amplifiers magnify. Which means AI can expose and grow not only our fears and greed, but also our wisdom, compassion, creativity, and love.
As AI grows ever more capable, the call for modern leaders is to become more intentional human beings, because the future will be shaped by what we ask AI to do for us.
Let’s give it something really worthy to amplify.
